About

What is Poetry is Closer than the Sea?

It is a movement, a stream, a space. A space to bring poetry closer to us in our daily lives. A space to read verse and explore the beauty of reflection, contemplation and meditation. It’s a collective meditation as we’re reading together, guided by basic tools of reading like metaphor, alliteration, enjambment…etc

It all started with a fleeting moment. The sea, myself, the seagulls and intersection of purposes: poetry and the water washing the shores. At that moment, I felt that I want to do something with poetry, but it was more than writing another essay and another witty interpretation, so I thought I want to bring poetry closer! And this is how Poetry is Closer than the Sea was born.

The team of Poetry is Closer than the Sea grew and is still growing. Contact me on the following email (aichadotyassindot1@gmaildotcom) if you have any idea or suggestion for collaboration.

Aicha Yassin: I’m a 25 year-old English graduate. I studied at the University of Haifa, where I majored in English Literature and Ofakim Honors program. Currently I’m studying medicine, so I consider this project a way to escape rigid, dichotomic equations of physiology, and to access my soul and my heart. I’m interested in many things: poetry, literature, society, space and culture. I speak Spanish and I write creative writing in English.
